Mason is 6 days old...

So we have been home with Mason for a few days and it has been a learning process for the whole family.  Mason loves to be cuddled all of the time, and he loves his swing, but the minute we lay him down in his crib or bassinet, he is a screaming fool.  That has been very fun at night!  Mike has become an expert swaddler, which has helped him calm down at night.  We are up every 2 to 2 1/2 hours at night to feed and change him, which is pretty good all things considered.  Last night, Mason started to pee through his diaper and sleeper every time he woke up to feed.  After going through all of the sheets and sleepers we had last night, we are trying to find a solution to this little problem.

Other than that, he has been absolutely wonderful.  We have been able to take him out for walks, and he has been letting us get some stuff done around the house.  I still cannot believe he is ours and we get to keep him.  I still can't stop staring at him, is that normal?

Mike goes back to work tomorrow, so wish him luck!  He is going to be a very tired new dad, and mom isn't quite sure how to handle Mason all day without him, but luckily my mom will be here for the first few days to lend a helping hand!

  1. Hey, Kelly!!! Congratulations on little Mason!!! He is beautiful! I'm glad things are going well at home!!! It's exhausting, but so wonderful to know that he's yours!!! LOL! Andy and I looked at Tucker ALL the time and would say, "I can't believe we get to keep him!!!"

I have a few tips that might be able to help you!
*Put multiple sheets and mattress pads on the bed at once. That way, if it's in the middle of the night, and he soaks or spits up on the sheet, all you have to do is pull of the sheet and pad, and there's another one underneath! You don't have to fiddle with remaking the whole thing! :)

*Try changing up his diaper if he keeps leaking through it. Pampers worked for Tucker at every size except for 1, I have no idea why, but I think it must be a boy thing! We use Luvs now, which are great, and we used Luvs at size 1, too.

*Do you have a Swaddle Me or a Swaddle pod? Those things are miracles!!! We didn't have swaddle blankets, so our rectangular ones never worked. The swaddle Me's have velcro tabs that can hold his arms tightly, and the swaddle pod (I didn't find this until Tucker was too old, so Kendall used it with Pax), you just zip up!!!

Anyways, I hope this helps! Congratulations! Enjoy the time with your mom while Mike is at work! Let me know if you ever have any questions, I'd love to help!

  2. oh, one other thing about soaking through the sheets! We had little "piddle pads" for the changing table and crib. They're like 12x12 in. pieces of thick material that you can just toss in the wash if you get "exploded" on :), and then you don't have to take off the whole sheet or changing pad cover! You can find them at Babies R Us, and I'm sure Target or Wal*mart too! :)
